JAMMU, Nov 13: The CT Scan machine in Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, has been lying defunct for last about three months while the hospital administration is sleeping over the issue.
Hundreds of patients who come daily in the hospital from far flung areas of Jammu district are suffering due to non-functioning of the machine, which is vital for quickly examining people who may have internal injuries from car accidents or other types of trauma and save a person’s life.
But this significant diagnosis machine is lying defunct not for one or two weeks but for last over three months due to which the patients are suffering a lot and on the other hand the hospital authorities are sleeping over the issue.
In this situation, the doctors at the hospital are bound to refer the needy patients to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, which is already burdened with huge rush of patients and therefore, the patients are compelled to go to the private clinics for CT Scan.
When contacted Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Dr Mohd Younis, admitted that the CT Scan machine of the hospital was non-functional for last about three months, as the agency responsible for annual maintenance of the machine had stopped providing service for non-payment of their dues amounting to Rs 13 lakh.
“But, now we have solved the issue with the firm, as out of Rs 13 lakh we have paid Rs 5 lakh from Hospital Development Fund (HDF) to the firm and made commitment of paying remaining amount of Rs 8 lakh in four installments, to which the firm agreed”, Dr Younis claimed and added that the engineers of the firm had already arrived and within one or two days the machine will be made functional.
