CTA resents arrest of colleague in Kathua

JAMMU, Apr 2: College Teachers’ Association (CTA) strongly resented the arrest of a college teacher of Government Degree College, Kathua under section 306 of IPC in connection with unfortunate suicide of a student.
Dr Rakesh Jasrotia, president of JKCTA emphasized that the teachers treat the students as their own family members always seeking their welfare and upliftment. The suicide by the student has shocked the entire college teachers fraternity and we share the pain and agony in these moments of sorrow. But the arrest of the teacher for the unfortunate suicide of the student has sent shockwaves among the College teachers as the discharge of routine duties like attendance, teaching, evaluation, examination duties can now make them easily vulnerable and subject them to harsh penalties. He appealed to the LG, Manoj Sinha, Advisor(B), Principal Secretary, HED for institutionalizing the safeguards for the college teachers who have become vulnerable in general and due to the stressful conditions owing to prevalent COVID-19 Pandemic. He also appealed to the LG administration to immediately constitute the dedicated Counseling Cell for the students who have been under psychological pressure and stress due to the unprecedented situation of COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized that the arrest of the teacher for discharging his routine duties has demoralized the college teachers and subjected them to intimidation. He appealed to LG administration to immediately release the college teacher who is in police custody for the last 12 days and restore the dignity that is due to him as part of College Teachers fraternity.
