JAMMU, Aug 22: The Chambers of Traders Federation (CTF), J&K UT unit today called on Lt Governor, M K Sinha and projected the issues of the trading community and others.
Led by Neeraj Anand, CTF J&K unit president, the delegation also submitted a memorandum to the LG while explaning him the issues. They revealed that the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is in transformation stage and business environment had not been conducive for trade due to pre-emptive restrictions put in place to counter adversaries from across the border. The Corona pandemic has further worsened the situation. With this the business in general has suffered a lot and would require special incentives and concessions for its revival.
The CTF demanded immediate financial package to help stakeholders like growers, cold storage owners, transporters and traders to survive the economic impact of current pandemic. They further demanded waiver of interest on bank limits and loans on priority for traders those who are dealing in non- essential items especially from March 2020 onwards, waiver on electricity charges, formation of committee at province level to deal with minor issues of market timings, entry from outside etc especially in light of no mechanism put in place to deal with industrialists, traders and employees coming from Punjab and other neighbouring states.
The Federation also demanded allowing ‘on lines’ with Delhi Model “Home Quarantine” for asymptomatic patients to lighten the burden on scarce medical resources.
Anand further submitted that Jammu Fruit Mandi is in shambles and requires immediate upkeep of debilitated roads and related infrastructure. Our economy that depends on horticulture would suffer immensely if infrastructure fails to service the upcoming “fruit season” wherein 500 to 600 trucks carrying perishable items enter the market on daily basis for further distribution to rest of country. This issue needs immediate redrresal, Anand suggested.
