Referring to the continuation of Toll Tax on goods being charged at Lakhanpur, Anand expressed surprise that this persistence simply violates the very widely acclaimed objective of  “One Nation One Tax”.
“We had totally supported our J&K Govt draft on GST, with all the special powers intact only on the assumption that Toll Tax on goods shall be kept away from the purview of powers enjoyed under section 5 of J&K’s Constitution, but  factually our hopes have been belied,”  Anand added.
The Toll Tax at Lakhanpur shall not only put additional burden on the traders but also  adversely  affect  the consumers also.
“Where was the need to continue Toll Tax on goods when the Central Govt has already assured all the State Govts to compensate all revenue losses in the first few years. Special powers notwithstanding our State Govt should have waited for some more time to assess and evaluate the situation on revenue front. It could have then devised a practical solution after taking all stake holders into confidence”, Anand added.
Anand also demanded that for the smooth implementations of GST, Govt should form GST Coordination Committees at District level. It should also initiate hand-holding exercise between the department and the trading community.
The CTF further urged upon the Chief Minister  Mehbooba Mufti to look into the matter sympathetically, considering the socio-economic conditions of the State and make all efforts to keep the prices under check.
S Attar Singh, Chander Gulati, Yash Paul Gupta, Dinesh Gupta, Parveen Gupta and  Kailash Nagar were also present on the occasion.
