CUJ organizes seminar on education policy

JAMMU, Mar 27: An ICSSR sponsored two day national seminar on `National Policy on Education: Reflection on School Education’ organized by Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teacher and Teaching (PMMMNMT), began today.
More than hundred educationists, administrators, teachers, scholars and students are participating in the seminar. The inaugural session of the seminar was graced by chief guest Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of Transport (independent charge), Government of J&K; Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, CUJ; Professor Lokesh Koul, Professor Emeritus HP University, Shimla; Professor S K Yadav, former Head and Dean Department of Teacher Education NCERT; Professor Lokesh K Verma, Dean & Head of Department of Educational Studies, CUJ and others.
Sunil Sharma recalled Vedic educational system and stressed on inculcating professional ethics among the teachers and dedication and sincerity among the students. He also recollected the contribution of great educationalists of India and stressed on the moral education. He realized the importance of moral education and emphasized that it is pre requisite for the country for becoming world leader.
Professor S K Yadav, former Head and Dean Department of Teacher Education NCERT, stressed upon the role of education in national building. He highlighted the importance of various post independence educational committees and commissions for the improvement of educational system of the country.
Professor Lokesh Koul gave emphasis on the access, equity, inclusion and relevant type of education. More specifically to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, he recalled the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh in compulsory education, adult education and girl education.
Professor Ashok Aima stressed on local need based education, character building education and the educational system which develops competitive spirit and dignity of labour among the students.
After the inaugural session the seminar went ahead with technical sessions where some thematic and empirical papers presentation were organized. On the first day.
