JAMMU, Oct 9: A meeting was held in the office of Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor (VC), Cluster University of Jammu to take stock of the current admission status for the academic session 2020-21 and also to explore the possible means of accommodating most students in the constituent colleges and schools of the Cluster University.
Dean Academic Affairs, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Principals of Constituent Colleges, Deans of Faculties, Dean Students Welfare and the IT Team attended the meeting. The Committee thoroughly discussed the possible mechanism by which a good number of seats can be released for admission to students.
Keeping in view the ongoing demand of the students to increase the intake capacity, it was decided that the University will bring out another list of UG General programme at the earliest on the basis of available vacancies. Also, it was decided that as a sequel to the declaration of results of other competitive examinations and Prime Minister’s Scholarships Schemes, if vacancy arises, seats shall be allotted to students in the waiting list as per merit.
The committee decided that all those selected students who could not deposit their fees within the stipulated time are being given another opportunity for admission in the fourth list purely on the basis of merit/rank/opted preferences of the students subject to availability of seats,’
Also, the attendees of the meeting strongly refuted the baseless allegations made by the students of reducing the intake capacity from almost 15000 to 6000 seats which was actually never 15000 seats. The intake capacity of the constituent colleges has been fixed in compliance to Government Order of Department of Higher Education and as per UGC norms, keeping in view the available infrastructure and strength of faculty which has consistently being approximately 6000 seats.
The house further informed that the admission in the preceding session 2019-20 was 5740. It is pertinent to mentioned that due to the present ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, highly meritorious students who have not sought admission outside the JK UT have got admission in the colleges and schools of Cluster University of Jammu.
