CUK-DTS signs MoU with Department of Tourism

SRINAGAR, Jan 2:  The Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Tourism, Government of J&K with a vision and objective of nurturing more industry/academic collaboration in terms of collaborative research, consultancy, internship programmes and capacity building programs.
The MoU was signed between the Officiating Vice-Chancellor of CUK, Prof Mehraj-ud-Din Mir and Talat Parvez, Director Tourism, J&K Government.
“There is a growing interdependence between academic institutions and the industry keeping in view the growth, progress and developmental pace of the country, and consequently urgency is felt to tailor the curriculum to the ultimate requirements the industry,” Prof Mehraj said. He further expected that with the agreement in place, both the institutions shall actively collaborate in mutually agreeable academic events, workshops, conferences, teaching, training, research and development.
Talat Parvez said that the collaborating institutions shall work in a symbiotic way to benefit both institutions and efforts will be made to put the best possible interactions in place after signing of this MOU.
Professor M Afzal Zargar, Registrar of the Central University, said that the job oriented based curriculum would be given a preference, which will enhance the employability of student pass outs. He outlined various folds of the MoU where both the parties can mutually benefit.
Prof  S Fayaz, Head, Department of Tourism Studies,  said, “The MoU will help University and Tourism Department to explore new trends and commence new projects helpful for the academic and industry sector.”
Director Tourism was accompanied by Joint Director Dr T H Mir and Accounts Officer Nousheen. The faculty of the Tourism Department and Coordinator of the Convergent Journalism of CUK also attended the function.
