Cultural meet Anushthan 2016 begins at Kathua Campus

KATHUA, Mar 16:  A two-day Inter-college cultural fest `Anushthan 2016′,  under the theme ‘Celebrating Unity in Diversity’ began at Kathua Campus of the Jammu University, here today.
Various Government and private colleges, affiliated to JU, are participating in the event, under different categories, including  Solo Singing, Group Singing, Skit, Solo Dance, Group Dance, Music Instrument Playing, Canvas Painting, Collage Making, Pot Decoration, Western Singing and Rangoli.
The two-day cultural meet was inaugurated by Prof  Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, alongwith Prof  Poonam Dhawan, Dean Academic Affairs, JU;  Prof  Neelu Rohmetra, Rector Kathua and Billawar Campuses;  Prof  Vinod Sharma, Head,  Department Computer Sciences & IT, JU and Ifra Kak, Cultural Officer, JU.
Prof Ashok Aima   congratulated Kathua Campus for organizing an event of this stature and magnitude, which has provided a platform to the young students to exhibit their artistic talents. He also advised the participants to be independent learners in their bid to acquire knowledge which is relevant and can be practically put in use.
Prof Poonam Dhawan also dwelt upon the relevance of such programmes in the holistic development of the students.
Earlier Professor Neelu Rohmetra shared with the gathering that Anushthan 2016 is the third cultural meet in the series, on the lines of the “Display Your Talent” event in the main Campus of JU. She said that “Anushthan” has been institutionalized as a yearly phenomenon with an objective to train students to experience pride in rich cultural heritage and traditions of our country. The aim is also to showcase the cultural and literary latent talent of students of the University and its affiliated colleges in the region.
On the first day, the events, including Solo Singing, Group Singing, Skit, Canvas Painting, Collage Making, Pot Decoration and Rangoli were held. The respective events on the first day were adjudged by Rakesh Sambyal, Kapil Thapa, Kuldeep Raina, Digvijay Singh, Sanjay Sharma, T R Sumbria, R S Katal, Sumit and Ifra Kak.
Vibha Bharti, the daughter of the soil (village Bagyal, Kathua) and winner of Awaz Punjab Di (2015-16) organized by MH1, gave a special performance on the occasion and enthralled the audiences. Mahesh Chander Paliwal, Dy Director, Doordarshan Kathua, Prof J R Dhotra, former Rector, Kathua Campus and Prof M R Rana, former Professor of The Business School, graced the occasion as the special guests.
