NOWSHERA, Sept 15: The traffic on Jammu-Rajouri highway was suspended for several hours after a flash flood triggered by heavy rain washed away a culvert on the road near Nowshera this morning.
Official sources said that after the incident, the authorities were forced to divert traffic on the other route. It said a temporary culvert on the highway at Rajal Top area in Nowshera was washed away due to heavy rain late Thursday night. After this scores of vehicles were stranded on the highway since this morning.
Sources said the work on the construction of a bridge on the highway at Rajal Top in Nowshera was going on for the past one month and a temporary culvert was built to facilitate the movement of vehicles, they said.
A Traffic Police official said that movement of vehicles has been diverted along with heavy as well as passenger vehicles from Siot towards Kalakote-Rajouri, while private and light motor vehicles are diverted from Nowshera bridge to Beri Pattan Sunderbani road.
He said efforts to restore the highway are underway.
