Curfew lifted from Pulwama

SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Curfew like restrictions that were imposed in Pulwama and its adjoining areas yesterday were lifted this evening while both the moderate and hardline Hurriyat Conference factions called for strike on Monday against security forces firing in which 8 people were injured in Pulwama.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Shafat Noor, told Excelsior that curfew like restrictions that were imposed yesterday were lifted this evening after the improvement in the situation. “We are monitoring the situation and if it continues to be normal there will be no further restrictions tomorrow”, he added.
The DC said that 2300 students appeared in the examination in Pulwama town and shops in certain areas were also open. However, some youth appeared in Muran and Rajpora Chowks and pelted stones on police and CRPF. Police chased them away by charging batons on them and firing tear gas shells. However, the youth re-grouped and intermittent clashes continued for few hours.
Meanwhile, moderate Hurriyat Conference has called for a complete strike on Monday (December 31) against security force firing in Pulwama and asked people to protest peacefully demanding withdrawal of armed forces from towns and cities and repealing of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
The hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has asked the Business community, transporters, employees, shopkeepers and people to extend their support to the strike call and make call a success. He said that Monday’s strike in protest against firing in Pulwama and a token of solidarity with those detainees who have been awarded the life sentences.
