SRINAGAR : Curfew was lifted in Shopian in south Kashmir after 11 days following improvement in the situation.
However, life remained crippled as business and other establishments remained closed and traffic was also off the roads.
Officials said the curfew has been lifted in Shopian and adjoining areas following improvement in the situation.
The restrictions were imposed on September 11 following the killing of a school bus driver in security force firing during demonstration in protest against the death of four people allegedly in CRPF firing on September 7.
Police confirmed that one of the deceased person was a militant of Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT) Abdullah Haroon. However, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and locals contested the claim and said how police came to conclusion when only a day before, an FIR was registered.
The District Magistrate, who has been appointed to inquire into these killling, was also recording statements of witnesses. Despite lifting of curfew early this morning, shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads though there was no strike call from any organisation.
However, people are demanding total shifting of the CRPF camp from Gagran and action against the security persons involved in these killings.
