Currency sent for forensic examination

JAMMU, Dec 14: Police have sent Rs 14.2 lakh worth fake currency recovered from the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector for forensic examination to ascertain whether it was genuine or fake.
The BSF, which had recovered the currency a day before from forward area of Kharkola in RS Pura sector, handed over the currency to RS Pura police station for registration of a case and further investigations.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), RS Pura Diwakar Singh said a case under Section 489-A RPC has been registered in connection with the recovery of Rs 14.2 lakh worth currency, which was in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000.
“Though the currency appeared to be fake, it was being sent for forensic examination for confirmation”, Mr Singh said.
Police sources said investigations were on to ascertain possible recipients of the fake currency on this side. Some persons including former cross-border smugglers were also being questioned in this connection, they added.
