JAMMU, Oct 12: State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K in collaboration with Bhartiye Jain Sanghthana (BJS) J&K, SS Jain Sabha J&K, Jain Taruni Mandal and Jain Yuvak Sangh today organized a curtain raiser press conference on Online Organ Donation Registration and Awareness Camp for the general public to be held on 14th October.
Addressing the press conference, Dr Sanjeev Puri (Joint Director, J&K SOTTO) informed that the Camp is being organized under Ayushman Bhava campaign initiated by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He said the campaign was started from 17 September 2023 onwards and one of the key initiatives of the Campaign is to raise awareness about Human Organ/Tissue Donation and motivate people to take pledge to donate organs after death.
Dr Puri said that the Organ Donation rate from deceased donors in our country is estimated to be 0.52 per million populations. “In comparison, the organ donation rate in Spain, the highest in the world, is 49.6 per million population,” he said, adding, organ donation is the need of the hour as many people are struggling with end stage diseases and they need organs like kidney, liver, heart, lungs etc to survive.
“Not everyone can get a living donor and they also have to get on the waiting list for transplantation. And to reduce this demand and supply gap of human organs, it is very important to have deceased donors in our Country and this can be possible only when a person can get organs from deceased donors and for that a person needs to be motivated to donate organs,” the Joint Director said.
Sandeep Jain (State president, BJS) invited the general public to come in the camp with Aadhar linked mobile to get registered for the noble drive for organ donation in presence of Pardeep Jain (vice president, BJS J&K), Neelu Jain (vice president, BJS J&K) and Shelly Jain (joint secretary BJS, J&K). They requested the general public to visit at Namah, opposite Bahu Plaza, Gandhi Nagar Jammu on 14 October between 11am to 4 pm.
