KISHTWAR, Dec 9: Chenab Valley Traders’ Association (CVTA) has supported the demand for separate divisional status to erstwhile Doda district in order to bring uniformity in infrastructure and economic development of Jammu region.
In this connection, Chenab Valley Traders Association held a meeting here today at its head office. The meeting unanimously decided to support the demand being raised in political and social circles, observing that the three districts of Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban face severe development deficit and the divisional status to the region was need of the hour.
The members observed that demand for Hill Development Council has been raised from time to time but the political dispensations remained unmoved towards the plights of this sub region. The speakers further observed that while the State was getting huge financial support in the form of electricity charges from hydel projects, compensation, water cess, timber extraction, minerals and other sectors, the sub region has been ignored in all respect.
It said that the development deficit can be gauged from the fact that around 70 percent of the area has no road connectivity, 30 percent population still lacks electricity and 80 percent has no access to medical healthcare.
The Association urged all the political parties and social organizations to come together at this crucial juncture and fight collectively for the genuine demand.
