CWA for decrease in public transport charges

JAMMU, Feb 19: The Consumer Welfare Association (CWA) raised the issue of decrease of public transport charges with Transport Commissioner, Jammu.
Keeping in view the demand of the general public to slash public transport charges, the RTO Jammu had invited all the representatives of public transport associations of Jammu division including civil society organizations regarding the inputs before fixing the transport charges.
The representatives of public transport forwarded RTO Jammu that they are already running their fleets at loss, as the cost of vehicles insurance, salaries of staff, maintenance charges of vehicles are already on higher side. Even then they said they authorized the RTO Jammu to fix the rates after kind consideration of above mentioned facts.
The civil society representative, Vikram Gour, president, CWA, Jammu accompanied by BM Kohli, general secretary, Rajinder P Kakkar, secretary and president Consumer Forum, Danish Rana spoke on behalf of general public.
They said that they have sympathy with transporters regarding above facts, which were already considered in October 2014, when the rates were raised. Now, the transport rates should be declined, as the rates of petrol and diesel has been slashed upto 30 percent.
RTO Jammu assured the house that he will forward the facts of the meeting neutrally after calculating all expensive of transporters.
The civil society pointed out that rates should be point-to-point in buses, mini-buses and trucks and auto rickshaws should run according to meters or point to point as per pre-boarding of passengers as fixed by the Government at the earliest.
