JAMMU, Apr 8: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) claimed today they have solved three cases of online fraud.
A police spokesperson said that in one of the cases, the victim received a WhatsApp call from a suspicious person that his parcel was delivered in Delhi for which he was asked to pay Rs 29,500.
The victim made the transaction followed by which his number was blocked by fraudsters, he said.
In another case, he said, a complaint of financial fraud was received from a person who invested different amounts totalling Rs 50000 with a fraudster who switched off his phone post receiving the amount from the victim.
In the third case, the spokesperson said that another complaint of fraud amounting to Rs 38,500 was received from a person who had applied for a loan of Rs 50000 on FundFlex Loan calculator app.
In this case, he said, the victim received a call to pay Rs 1250 as membership fee. He said the victim paid the fee after which he was asked to pay more amounts in installments.
Once the fraudster received the amount, he also put his phone on the switch off mode, said the police spokesperson.
During the investigation, the Cyber Cell of the DPO Jammu acted swiftly and put on hold an amount of Rs 1,13,000 out of total Rs 1,18,000 in three separate cases.
Further investigation in all the cases is underway, he said.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the SSP Jammu, Dr Vinod Kumar has appealed the general public to remain extra vigilant and report promptly to the National Helpline number 1930 or Cyber Cell DPO Jammu helpline number 8899537995 for registering any complaint related to cyber crimes.
The general public can also lodge their complaints online at www.cybercrime.gov.in and www.ceir.gov.in for lost/stolen mobile phones.
