SRINAGAR, Nov 17: Cyber Police Kashmir today issued an alert, urging people not to install the J&K Bank application currently circulating on WhatsApp.
“Alert! A fake J&K Bank APK is circulating on WhatsApp. It may contain malware/spyware. Do not download or install APKs from unofficial sources,” Cyber Police Kashmir wrote on ‘X’.
It added: “Use only official app stores (Google Play/App Store). Stay vigilant to protect your data & devices!”
Police urged people to verify app authenticity via J&K Bank’s official website or support, while stressing the importance of keeping the “OS & antivirus updated regularly.” “Spread the word-your data security is in your hands!”
Meanwhile, J&K Bank also issued a statement, urging people to stay vigilant and noting that it doesn’t have any affiliation with the application.
“We have come to know about a fraudulent mobile application claiming to represent J&K Bank, which attempts to collect sensitive details like card numbers, ATM PINs, CVV codes, and other personal information,” the bank said.
“To ensure your financial security,” the bank urged people to take certain steps and precautions, which include “Always download J&K Bank’s official apps from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.”
“Verify the publisher details for authenticity. Remember, J&K Bank will never request sensitive details; we will never ask for your ATM PIN, CVV, or full card details through any app, call, or email.”
If prompted, the bank said, it is a fraudulent attempt. “Report Suspicious Activity Immediately: If you have downloaded this app or shared any details, contact our customer support urgently. Prompt action can help protect your finances.”
J&K Bank said that “awareness is your best defense…For any clarifications or questions, contact us through our official channels, including our official social media handles.”
