HYDERABAD, July 1:
The Principal Special CBI Court at Nampally today extended the judicial remand of YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy till July 15 in the disproportionate assets case against him.
Judge U Durga Prasada Rao passed the order after conducting the trial through video-conference from Chanchalguda Jail where the Kadapa MP was lodged.
The court extended the remand of Jagan on the CBI’s plea as it cited the investigation in the case was still under progress.
The Judge also extended the remand of former Karnataka BJP Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy in the illegal mining case and former Andhra Pradesh Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, who is in Chanchalguda Jail in the illegal assets case, till July 15.
The CBI Judge had also extended till July 15, the judicial remand of Mr Nimmagadda Prasad and bureaucrat Brahamananda Reddy who were also cited as accused in the disproportionate assets case of Jagan after conducting the proceedings through video conference from Chanchalguda Jail.
The Judge also passed orders in connection with extending remand to July 15 of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) accused B V Srinivas Reddy and Janardhan Reddy’s personal assistant K Mehfuz Ali khan.
The court also extended the remand of Sunil Reddy till July 15 in the Emaar Case.
Earlier, Former Home Minister P Sabita Indira Reddy, who was an accused in the assets case of Jagan and was named by the investigation agency in its fifth charge sheet, IAS officers Manmohan Singh and Samuel, who were also accused in the illegal assets case, appeared before the court complying with the directions given by the Judge.
OMC alleged accused V D Rajagopal and Emaar accused– IAS officer B P Acharya, Vijay Raghav Reddy–also appeared before the Judge.
The Judge adjourned the hearing till July 3 on the petition filed by the CBI in connection with sending Ms Sabita and former Andhra Pradesh Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao to Judicial custody.
Mr Rao was an accused in the disproportionate assets case and his name was mentioned in the CBI’s fourth charge sheet filed in the court last year.
The investigating agency contended they had made statements before the media that they would come out clean in the case which would affect the ongoing investigation and there was possibility of influencing the witnesses.
Jagan was arrested by the CBI on May 27, 2012 after flow of investments to the tune of Rs 850 crore into his companies–Jagathi Publication, Indira Television, Bharathi Cement, Sandur Power, Carmel Asia and others–by firms and individuals was reportedly proved by the investigating agency in return for lands allotted to them during the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure.
