JAMMU, Sept 17: Several pairs of boots of top militant Mehraj-ud-Din Wani alias Javed alias Daand had been specially designed by the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan to smuggle fake currency during his trips to India.
“Every boot was capable of carrying currency worth Rs 2 lakh. This way, Daand was smuggling at least Rs 4 lakh during his one trip to India from Nepal’’, the investigators said.
They pointed out that Daand has admitted during his questioning by multiple agencies that the specially designed pairs of boots had been handed over to him by the ISI operatives at Kathmandu, Nepal. Sole of the boots had been designed in such a way that they could easily carry Rs 2 lakh in each boot.
Daand has reportedly confessed during his questioning that he flew to New Delhi thrice from Kathmandu on a fake passport on the name of Wazeer-ur-Rehman and smuggled Rs 12 lakh fake Indian currency during the three trips. The currency was supplied to militants and ISI operatives across the country including Jammu and Kashmir.
The new technique of pumping fake currency into India to disturb Indian economy and sustain militancy was developed by the ISI officials operating in Nepal. Daand claimed that he had been handed over several pairs of such shoes and currency at Kathmandu. During every trip, he used to change shoes.
Sources said the top militant has so far admitted that he flew thrice to New Delhi from Kathmandu using fake passport assigned to him on the name of Wazeer-ur-Rehman. The ISI had made several fake passports for Daand to help him travel from Pakistan to Nepal and Nepal to India and vice versa. One such fake passport has been recovered from the possession of Mehraj-ud-Din along with an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) of the Election Commission of India, which has turned out to be fake.
Sources said besides pumping hawala money and fake currency into India, Daand had also persuaded a number of militants to enter into India and carry out subversive activities in various States. Besides he was also instrumental in taking back some veteran Pakistani militants to Pakistan and Nepal as they were unable to return through the Line of Control (LoC) due to fencing and strict surveillance by the security personnel.
Daand had also arranged fake passports with the help of ISI for several other militants to ensure their infiltration into India by air as they were finding it unable to breach the fencing, sources said.
As reported, multiple agencies, engaged in anti-militancy operations, have reached Kishtwar and were interrogating Daand to extract clues from him as he was the longest surviving militant and had deep contacts in Pakistan, Nepal and India.
