NEW DELHI, July 8:
Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) today approved Rs 2,400 crore for upgradation and modernisation of armoured fighting vehicles in Buy Indian Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.
The DAC, chaired by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, also approved the procurement of Carrier Command Post Tract Vehicles (CCPTVs) for technical control of artillery fire at the cost of Rs 406 crore, Defence sources said.
An armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) is a combat vehicle, protected by strong armour and generally armed with weapons, which combines operational mobility, tactical offensive and defensive capabilities. AFVs can be wheeled or tracked.
“The Ordnance Factory Medak in Telangana will provide this upgradation which will render the armoured fighting vehicles….,” they added.
Besides, the Council also reviewed other cases and accorded directions to ensure smooth progress of capital acquisition cases. (UNI)
