JAMMU, Mar 26: Continuing their indefinite strike, daily rated workers of Jal Shakti Department today held a massive protest demonstration at the office premises of PHE Chief Engineer, B C Road Jammu.

They were demanding regularization of their services and release of pending wages. They were also seeking wages at par with their counterparts in Union Territory of Ladakh.
Holding empty plates in their hands, they were raising slogans in support of their demands. They alleged that recent formation of Chief Secretary headed committee by the Omar Abdullah Government for looking into their demands was nothing but a delaying tactics and an attempt to dodge the issue.
“The successive Governments have formed a number of committees for our regularization with zero result and the latest announcement of another committee is also an attempt to befool the poor workers,” they said.
Talking to media-persons, leader of the protesting workers said that families of hapless daily wagers are facing starvation like situation due to non-payment of their wages.
“Due to no release of wages since months together, we are unable to pay the school fee of our children and feed family members,” they said and vowed to continue their strike till the Government takes concrete steps on the demands and immediately release their pending wages.
