Daily wagers’ march to Civil Secretariat foiled

SRINAGAR, Aug 21:  Police today foiled march of daily  wagers, contractuals and others towards the Civil Secretariat, seat of the Government in the summer capital here.
About 100 employees were taken into preventive custody  after they refused to disperse though police used colour water to disperse them.
The daily wagers, contractuals and others of different departments, who are proteting for the past few days, suddenly appeared at Exhibition crossing, raising anti Government slogans.    Demanding regularisation of their service, the employees started march towards the secretariat.    However, a large number of security force and State  police personnel, present in the area immediately swung into action and chased away the employees.
Police also used coloured water to disperse the  demonstrators who were trying to proceed towards the main gate of the seat of the Government.
Later about 100 employees were put into police vehicles  and taken to police station.
Traffic on the main busy road was also disrupted for some time due to police action and protests.
Daily wagers and contractuals of Public Health  Engineering (PHE) Department, Rehbar-e-Taleem and other departments are holding protests in the summer capital for the past few days, demanding regularisation of their services.    They alleged that despite repeated assurance to regularise all the daily wagers and contractuals who have completed seven years in service, nothing has been done.
Threatening to intensify their agitation, the employees demanded immediate order for regularisation of their service before the Chief Election Commission (CEC) announces Assembly elections in the State.
