BILLAWAR, Mar 27: A day-long protest dharna against non-payment of wages from 23 months to eight years was staged by daily wage workers here at Mandli.
Hundreds of daily wage workers of various departments of the tehsil under the umbrella of All J&K Low Paid Government Employees Federation (LPEF) assembled at Mandli and staged a sit-in-protest.
Sagar Singh, president, PHE Employees and Workers’ Union, Billawar, while speaking on the occasion said that the previous State Government led by Omar Abdullah did nothing to pay the wages of casual and CP workers who are without wages for last more than eight years while need based workers did not get wages for last 23 months.
Alleging that the family members of these daily wagers are suffering starvation due to the apathy of the State Government, which failed to pay their wages since long, the speakers appealed the present Government to ensure early payment of their wages.
The speakers said that the previous Government deliberately put the issues of regularization of daily wagers after seven years service and revision of minimum wages, in back burner.
They made a strong plea to new PDP-BJP Government headed by Mufti Mohd Sayeed to pay priority attention to solve the issues of daily wagers to save them from undue miseries and hardships they are facing since long.
They appealed the Government to raise minimum daily wage to Rs 350 and also ensure that wages are paid to the workers every month, henceforth.
