JAMMU, Apr 18: Amid sudden surge in COVID-19 cases during second wave of the pandemic, Doctors Association of Jammu (DAJ) has demanded appropriate residential facilities within or around the hospital premises which would be in the better interest of doctors as well as the society at large.
In a handout, Dr Balvinder Singh, DAJ president said that doctors are at forefront in war against Coronavirus as they are treating the patients despite all odds and in such a situation they constitute the most vulnerable section so far as Corona infection is concerned.
He said, by returning to homes after duties, families of doctors as well as those who come in their contact could be at risk of infection and despite taking all the requisite precautions, doctors may unintentionally become cause of deadly virus spread.
The DAJ president said that gravity of the existing situations demands that all the doctors especially those on COVID duties should be provided separate accommodation like last year when the COVID-19 spread was intense during the first wave.
He said doctor’s returning to their homes or hostels could prove disastrous for others and it is a matter of great concern that needs to be addressed with utmost urgency.
Singh also said that there is a need to prepare duty roster so that 50 per cent of the staff is spared for back-up to be used in case someone amongst them gets infected with COVID-19.
Dr Manjeet Singh, general secretary DAJ asked the administration to ensure that after every ten days of COVID duty, the doctors should be sent for ten day quarantine.
He appealed to the Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to recruit more doctors in view of the second wave of COVID-19 being more dangerous.
