SRINAGAR, Jan 18: The Doctors Association Kashmir has welcomed the banning of private practice of Head of Departments in Government Medical Colleges of the State.
President Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said that this is in the interest of patient care and will improve teaching and research in medical colleges.
It is pertinent to mention that in Feb 2011, DAK had demanded ban on private practice of faculty in tertiary care teaching hospitals as it is the root cause of deterioration of medical colleges.
DAK said that banning of private practice in Government sector will generate employment avenues for doctors in private sector, allow it to grow, create a competitive environment which is needed for a comprehensive health care scenario in the state.
DAK has urged Government to redress some of the long pending demands of medical faculty and implement Medical Council of India guidelines in totality. Further Govt. should on priority release the salary of in service postgraduates and remove the pay anomaly of stipendary postgraduates who are the backbone of tertiary care hospitals.
DAK has demanded that recruitment of Principal Medical Colleges should be made transparent by properly advertising with clear cut defined eligibility criterion and selection for these key posts should be made by an expert panel.
