LEH, Aug 24: Spiritual leader Dalai Lama today flagged-off a cleanliness drive from Jivetsal Choglamsar.
Initiated by the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr Sonam Dawa Lonpo, the cleanliness drive will be carried out in entire district in days to come. Today, it started from Jivetsal Choglamsar and culminated at Choglamsar Bazaar.
Addressing the gathering at Choglamsar Bazar, CEC read out the message of Dalai Lama, who said, “Swachh Bharat Mission launched by the Prime Minister in October 2014 is aimed at accelerating efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage in all rural areas of India and to put much needed focus on sanitation”, adding “this initiative will be a great success”.
The CEC hoped that entire people of Ladakh will join in making the Swachh Bharat Mission successful in every respect, adding “until and unless every individual inculcate a sense of responsibility about cleanliness, we can’t dream of a Swachh Bharat”. He urged every responsible citizens of Ladakh including non locals to treat every single day as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to achieve “Clean India” mission.
Dr Jigmet Yangchan, Scientist SKAUST appealed the people of Ladakh to give utmost value to water which is getting reduced and polluted in the age of global warming.
Earlier, District Panchayat Officer Leh highlighted the Swachh Bharat Mission Scheme and said that the program is being implemented in entire country with the vision to achieve the dream of Nirmal Bharat by 2019.
Meanwhile, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) organized a function in honour of Dalai Lama at Jevetsal Photang.
Speaking on the occasion, Dalai Lama assured to revisit Ladakh next year to hold the Yarcho Chenmo (Buddhist Summer Council) in Nobra valley and also to visit the border area of Turtuk as desired by the Muslim community.
“The communal harmony especially between Shia, Sunni and Buddhist is a centuries old tradition here and this is one of the reasons why I like to visit again and again”, he said and urged the need to further strengthen the communal harmony.
