JAMMU, Dec 4: The dam concrete work of Kwar Hydro Electric Project (540 MW) commenced today with the inauguration of concrete pouring at the deepest foundation level of the dam.
The event was conducted through a virtual conference, led by RK Chaudhary, CMD of NHPC Limited & SJVN Limited. Also present were S K Singh, Director (Projects & Technical) of NHPC Limited and Santosh Kumar, CVO of NHPC Limited. Officials from NHPC, Chenab Valley Power Projects Limited (CVPPL), and M/s Patel Engineering Limited were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Chaudhary emphasized the importance of utilizing the current working season to complete concreting above the construction sluice level, which would allow for continuous work during the monsoon season and help in completing the dam early. The successful concreting above the under sluice level this season would also result in significant time and cost savings, particularly concerning the construction of the coffer dam for an additional season.
Ramesh Mukhiya, MD of CVPPL, was also present at the site. He reassured full commitment from CVPPL towards the timely commissioning of the project.
The Kwar Hydro Electric Project, located in the Chenab River Basin, is being constructed by CVPPL, a joint venture between NHPC Limited and JKSPDC. CVPPL is responsible for the implementation of four hydroelectric projects with a total installed capacity of approximately 3094 MW.
The completion of the dam work is critical for the project’s overall development, which will significantly impact the region’s socio-economic growth and improve the living standards of surrounding areas.
