JAMMU, Aug 9: As there is no respite from the heat wave, the winter capital of the State is reeling under acute power shortage thus forcing people to go for fresh purchase of inverters and batteries for running electrical gadgets to get some respite from the scorching heat.
This was stated by former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while addressing deputations from Govindpur, Chatha Pind, Roop Nagar, Digiana and Sujwan in Gandhi Nagar constituency today. Residents in several localities of the city are fuming and fretting against the PDD as it is taking four to five days to replace the damaged transformers.
Bhalla said elected representatives are not available to listen to their grievances. Not only the public but the industrialists are also facing worst kind of power crisis here.
For the last one week, Jammu city and its other major towns like Akhnoor, Khour, Jourian, RS Pura, Bishnah, Vijaypur, Nagrota, Bari Brahamana besides Samba and Kathua districts are power crisis. For hours together, the forced shut down is being imposed on the consumers. Even during night hours, there is no power for hours together and people are spending sleepless nights these days, former Minister lamented.
There are massive public protests at least daily these days in Jammu city and other towns but the public representatives and even the Minister for Power Dr Nirmal Singh, who hails from Jammu is apparently least bothered about the miseries of the public.
Expressing concern over dissatisfaction among people over frequent unscheduled power curtailments, the former minister asked the Chief Engineer to keep round-the-clock monitoring on the status of power supply in the division. He asked him to devise an effective mechanism to further streamline the position of power supply.
