Daughters of Vitasta holds meet, discusses role of women in reclaiming homeland

JAMMU, Apr 7: To deliberate on the role of Kashmiri Pandit women in this decisive phase of exile when the forces within and outside the State apparatus are hell bent to de-empower the KP community at all costs, the Daughter’s of Vitasta (DoV) the Women’s Wing of Panun Kashmir, organized a one day meet here today.
The meet focused on social reconstruction for the Kashmiri Pandit resurgence and the role of women in reclaiming Homeland”. During the first session the audience was mesmerized by the noted singer and State award winner, Deepali Watal with her soulful voice and melody.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Shakti Bhan, Chairperson, Daughter’s of Vitasta. In her address said,” the resolutions passed by P K on  December 28, 2012 on the eve of the national convention should be the cardinal principles to boost the Kashmiri Pandit community to march ahead amid all odds to reclaim the homeland in Kashmir with the Union Territory status.”
Exhorting masses to pay special heed towards the dwindling population of the community, Dr. Shakti Bhan said,” only the adoption of the three child norm will take the community out of this process of elimination.
Dr. Neeru Kharoo, while making her presentation said, “the community women need to work on multiple fronts as the challenges are multifold. Baby Bhat highlighted the sufferings and pain of the KP women through are appealing poetry.
Educationist and artist Prof Kusum Dhar said,”KP women need to play the frontline in the struggle for the reclamation of homeland.
Dr. Sujata, a yoga practitioner highlighted the importance of the yoga for the KP women as the forced exodus has exposed the community to an abnormal situation and disease.
A delegation of prominent ladies from Jagti refugee settlement also made their presentation on the occasion and highlighted the sense of intimidation and suppreesion being unleashed in the camp by authorities by indulging in electricity curtailment and disrupted water supply.
In his address. Ajay Chrungoo,Chairman, P K said, “we as a community are in a decisive phase of the homeland struggle that is why the forces responsible for the genocide of the community are leaving no stone unturned to unleash every weapon their armory to intimidate the community. The need is to preserve our cultural assets and see them in totality in terms of our identity”, he added.
“We are facing a comprehensive onslaught on our existence and only mantra to defeat this onslaught is that community should intensify struggle for implementing the Margdarshan resolution.
