JAMMU, Sept 4: Daughters of Panun Kashmir organized a traditional function in connection with the observance of Vitasta Divas, the birth day of river Vitasta (Jehlum) with fervour, here today.
Kashmiri Pandits revere it as an incarnation of Mata Parvati.
Daughters of Panun Kashmir, the women wing of PK has been observing this day for the last 26 years on the Ranbir canal which is a tributary of River Chanderbhaga (Chenab).
It is on the banks of river Vitasta that the prestine civilization of Kashmir flourished for the last thousands of years.
The programme was presided over by Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir, while Swami Kumar Ji was the chief guest on the occasion.
HN Jattu, senior leader of the KP community was the special guest on the occasion, while Vimla Chrungoo, Secretary, DOPK, and its senior members Sunita Raina, Nirmala Raina, Vijay Saproo and Sarojini Kaul were the main activists in the programme.
An ‘Aarti’ was observed with flower petals and the lighting earthen lamps were immersed in the Ranbir canal with full devotion and fervour creating a magnetic effect all around.
HN Jattu while speaking on the occasion said that the success of the Kashmiri Pandits as a socio-cultural group is due to the unique way of observing its festivals and customs.
Swami Kumar Ji spoke on the religio-cultural significance of river Vitasta. He explained as to how the unique Sharda culture evolved on the banks of Mata Vitasta and exhorted the KP community to remain rooted to the traditions and religious tenets in order to survive the onslaught of different influences.
Virender Raina spoke about the importance of the campaign launched by Panun Kashmir in regard to the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A.
Chrungoo in his presentation gave a brief of what the Kashmir did for the last six months. He said, the narrative of the nation regarding the Kashmir imbroglio has started changing with the efforts of Panun Kashmir.
The community youth led by Sameer Bhat, Kalhan Kachroo, Ruskin Bhat, Akshay Pandita, Ankur Raina and Vineed Sikal administered the oath to the audience to keep the struggle of Homeland alive and vibrant.
Earlier, Vimla Chrungoo presented the welcome address, while the proceedings of the programme were conducted by Upinder Kaul, General Secretary, Panun Kashmir.
