JAMMU, Jan 31: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Smile Social Youth Club through its President Matloob Saleem Qureshi raising an important issue of organ transplant, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal  and Justice Tashi Rabstan today sought updated status report from the State.
After hearing both the sides, the DB observed that Atul Dulloo, Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Health and Medical Education, informed that the statute governing the transplantation of human organs has been amended very recently and the State Government is in the process of notifying the Rules thereunder, which are expected to be notified within two weeks from today.
Dulloo further informed the court that so far as corneal transplants are concerned, the State Government has already completed the construction of the necessary facilities and necessary staff is already in place. “Acquisition of necessary equipments for transplantation facilities is yet to be completed and hopefully the same shall be completed within four weeks from today”, he added.
On this, DB issued directions for filing status report within six weeks from today.
