JAMMU, July 4: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul has directed the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to ensure that no brick kiln is permitted to run in Reasi without compliance with the requirements of the Jammu and Kashmir Brick Kilns (Regulations) Act, 2020.
The direction has been passed in a Public Interest Litigation wherein it has been submitted that Jammu and Kashmir Brick Kilns (Regulations) Act, 2010 has made it compulsory for existing brick kilns to apply for grant of licence.
Almost ten years have passed since the passing of the law but the same is not being implemented by the respondents, the petitioner said, adding “respondent is running the brick kiln without fulfilling the requirements under the Act”.
