DB directives in PIL on deaf, dumb population of Paralkote

JAMMU, Jan 3: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding difficulties of deaf and dumb population of Paralkote village in Poonch, Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Rajesh Sekhri has passed fresh directives.
While disposing of the PIL, the DB directed for establishment of Primary Health Centre in the village with facilities for early screening of hearing disorders, conduct of screening programs for newborns to detect congenital hearing loss, providing cochlear implants and hearing aids for affected children and adults, conduct of regular health camps and establishment of permanent centers for rehabilitation and speech therapy.
Further, the DB directed for collaborating with Central Government schemes to provide cochlear implants for children from low-income families and raising awareness on integrating ear and hearing care into PHC and training healthcare workers accordingly.
“These measures should be taken in a time-bound manner not only for the residents of Paralkote village but also for identifying and addressing similar issues in other areas of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh”, the DB said.
