DB directives in PIL on protection of artefacts, monuments

JAMMU, Aug 22: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Valley Citizen’s Council seeking directions for the protection and conservation of artefacts, monuments and excavation sites in Kashmir, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice MK Hanjura today issued directions for filing status report before next date of hearing for work with regard to cataloguing of the coins.
When the PIL came-up for hearing Shamsi, representing the Archeological Survey of India, submitted that in so far as the CBI investigation is concerned, the same was still in progress but no results have emerged as yet and efforts would continue in future also. He also submitted a list of excavation sites which are under the protection of the Archeological Survey of India as also the heritage monuments. He also submitted short summary with regard to each of the sites/ monuments containing high resolution images of the same.
Senior AAG BA Dar also submitted the list of sites/ monuments which are under the protection of the State. Presentations were also given both by Shamsi and Dar with regard to the same. Senior AAG requested for some time to come out with points of concern where directions could be issued for better maintenance of the excavation sites/ monuments which are under the control of the State and also for better coordination with Archeological Survey of India.
Accordingly, DB directed that a status report in respect of that shall be filed before the next date of hearing.
