JAMMU, Mar 7: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a student of law Arthav Mahajan seeking initiation of a special drive by J&K Police for checking the growing menace of drugs, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar has sought status report indicating progress made specifically in terms of the special teams which have been constituted.
After hearing Advocate Deepika Mahajan for the PIL whereas AAG Ravinder Gupta for the State, the DB said, “the status report shall also be submitted with regard to the measures undertaken by the Education Department for educating the students in schools and colleges with regard to the ill effects of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and how they should resist the temptation to become victims of this menace”.
“A status report shall also be filed with regard to the measures undertaken by the Social Welfare Department and the Health Department, for establishing de-addiction-cum- rehabilitation centres, both under the Government patronage as also in coordination with NGOs”, the DB said while directing the counsel appearing for the Narcotic Control Bureau to file a status report with regard to the steps it has taken in connection with control of narcotics within the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
