Non-functional Genetic Counseling Centre

JAMMU, May 11: Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Rahul Bharti has directed Commissioner/Secretary Health to file affidavit regarding non-functioning of Genetic Counseling Centre.
“Response has been filed by the Director Health Services, Jammu but reply from the Commissioner Secretary to Government, Health Department is necessary in the matter with a view to deal comprehensively with the issues that have been raised in the writ petition and the timeline within which the Genetic Counseling Centres, Genetic Clinic, Genetic Laboratories etc need to be established”, the DB said.
During the course of hearing, Advocate Navneet Dubey stated that according to the response filed by the Director Health Services, Genetic Counseling Centre established in the SMGS Hospital, Jammu has since been closed/is non-functional on account of the fact that the concerned Doctor Arshad Bhat, who was incharge of the centre has since been transferred.
DB directed that the affidavit to be filed by the Commissioner/ Secretary to Government, Health Department shall also address this particular aspect highlighted by the counsel for the petitioner.
