PIL seeking rehabilitation of Saddal inhabitants

JAMMU, June 12: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the displaced inhabitants of village Saddal in tehsil Mongri of Udhampur district, which was devastated due to landslide in the year 2014, a Division Bench of High Court of J&K & Ladakh comprising Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi has directed respondents to file an affidavit stating as to why no land has been allotted to the affected person as mentioned in the present application and also why land has been allotted to other persons who were not affected.
The order has been passed by Division Bench after hearing Advocate Deepika Mahajan for the PIL whereas Senior AAG SS Nanda for the UT. During the course of hearing, it was submitted that certain families of village Saddal were affected and displaced in the landslide which occurred in the year 2014.
Out of these affected families, only 27 families were allotted land and the remaining families have not been allotted any land. Instead 7 other families who were not affected were allotted land in their name.
