DB directs respondents to file ATR on eviction of encroachers

JAMMU, Aug 13: A Division Bench of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court comprising Chief Justice (Acting) Tashi Rabstan and Justice Puneet Gupta, while hearing a contempt petition in Public Interest Litigation, has directed respondents to file an action taken/latest status report on the next date of hearing, detailing all evictions/ actions taken against the encroachers from the Kahcharie /State land.
When the matter was taken-up for hearing, Division Bench observed, “statement of facts/compliance report has been filed mentioning that the total Kahcharie land across all the villages in the entire Tehsil Kupwara, as per records, is 25,438 kanals and 5 Marlas. Of this, 12,242 Kanals have been retrieved till date during anti-encroachment drives, as reported by field staff”.
“Out of the retrieved land, approximately 850 kanals have been handed over to various Government departments. The report further mentions that all illegal entries concerning State and Kahcharie land in revenue records have been expunged and no State or Kahcharie land is recorded in the name of any encroacher in revenue records”, DB observed.
