JAMMU, June 11: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Rufi Khan and other final year students of Graduation in Law, University of Jammu seeking effective prosecution of criminal trials particularly involving capital sentence and life imprisonment, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice MM Kumar and Justice Hasnain Masoodi today directed the State Government to file a comprehensive status report before August 4, 2014 explaining the system of appointment of Public Prosecutor at all levels so that appropriate directions if necessary may be issued.
The Division Bench further directed that a comprehensive status report be also filed with regard to the status of recommendations made by the Committee headed by Advocate General and detailed objections/ reply be also filed before the next date of hearing.
This judgment pronounced today by Justice Bansi Lal Bhat on behalf of Division Bench.
Advocate Rohit Kapoor along with Advocate Nadia Qadeer appeared for the PIL.
