DB grants 2 weeks time for filing response

JAMMU, Sept 9: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Paras Gupta regarding the various indecent, vulgar, inappropriate and untrue advertisements and programmes on various TV channels, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Tashi Rabstan today granted two weeks time to the State and Union of India for filing response.
After hearing Advocate Veenu Gupta for the PIL whereas ASGI KK Pangotra for the Union of India and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, DB observed, “respondents have sought time to file reply to the directions already given by this court whereby the respondents were directed to disclose the steps which the State Govt seeks to take for regulating objectionable television content on the analogy of the provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 and The Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 in the State of Jammu and Kashmir”.
“We had also directed the State to explain the steps it seeks to take for regulating the broadcasting of television advertisements and television programs, which are not in conformity with the various provisions of the Television Network Act of 1995 and the Cable Television Network Rules 1994, applicable in State of J&K”, the DB said.
Accordingly, DB directed them to file response within two weeks.
