DB rejects bail application of former SSP, wife

JAMMU, Feb 22: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Massodi rejected the bail application of former SSP Karnail Singh and his wife Ratno Devi, who were sentenced to undergo life imprisonment and fine by the Trial Court in the murder of one Nitin Sharma.
According to the police case, Nitin Sharma, driver of matador, had developed relations with daughter of accused Ratno Devi and the then SSP Karnail Singh and ultimately relations matured in their marriage on March 31, 2005 without the consent of her parents. After sometime, Karnail Singh and Ratno Devi hatched a conspiracy and killed Nitin Sharma.
On February 23, 2012, Trial Court awarded life-imprisonment and fine to all the accused namely Naresh Kumar, Sohan Lal, Jeet Kumar alias Jeeta, Jaimal Kumar alias Jeebu, Daleep Singh, Karnail Singh, Ratno Devi and Suresh Kumar.
After hearing Advocate Anil Khajuria appearing for the applicants whereas Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, Division Bench observed, “this is not a case where the appeal is pending or applicants have undergone substantial part of their sentence. Having regard to material on file, we do not find a case made out for suspension of sentence and grant of bail to the applicants”.
With these observations, Division Bench dismissed the application.
