PIL seeking demarcation of 66436 kanals of JDA land

JAMMU, Feb 5: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting encroachment of 20 lakh kanals of State land by the powerful land mafia in league with politicians, Revenue and Police officers, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan has directed the JDA and Revenue Department to place on record CD of videography of the land retrieved so far.
The DB also directed the Divisional Commissioner Jammu to file a status report with regard to the JDA land retrieved in Jammu/ Samba districts as per the directions issued on November 14, 2018.
When the PIL came up for hearing, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Supriya Chouhan and M Zulkarnain Chowdhary appearing for the petitioner submitted that in terms of Division Bench order dated November 14, 2018 a status report has been filed by Advocate Adarsh Sharma on behalf of Jammu Development Authority wherein it is disclosed that till date out of 63781 kanals of JDA land in Jammu district, 31244 kanals has been demarcated and 31184 kanals, 15 marlas and 82 sqft land has been handed over to JDA whereas demarcation of 32536 kanals, 17 marlas and 58 sqft is yet to be carried out.
Similarly in Samba district out of 11983 kanals of JDA land, 9807 kanals of land has been demarcated and 7550 kanals and 16 marlas has been handed over to JDA and demarcation of 2176 kanals and 11 marlas is yet to be conducted.
It has further been disclosed in the status report that JDA is in the process of framing Zonal Plans as per the provisions of Jammu Master Plan for which an agency, namely, Institute of Spatial Planning and Research from Panchkula, Haryana has been hired through e-tendering process.
Advocate Ahmed sought time for examining the status report in order to make detailed submissions on the next date of hearing. The DB allowed the prayer made by Advocate Ahmed. The Division Bench on the request of Advocate Ahmed also directed the Registry to ensure the listing of IA No.48/2014, which deals with the monitoring of Roshni Scam, on the next date of hearing.
