JAMMU, Apr 18: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting encroachments by the shopkeepers and other unknown persons in the JDA Shopping Complex, near City Chowk and also in the adjoining area, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Sindhu Sharma today directed JMC and JDA to file status report regarding action taken against the encroachers.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that due to illegal encroachments by the shopkeepers it has become very difficult for the pedestrians to walk on the road. “Numerous representations and complaints made by the petitioner since 1993 have failed to evoke any response from the district administration, JDA and JMC”, the counsel for the petitioner submitted.
He further submitted that petitioner even served a detailed representation dated 10-08-2017 upon the respondents urging them to ensure immediate removal of the illegal encroachments but no action was taken.
