JAMMU, Apr 2: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Sanjeev Kumar has sought details of social welfare schemes along with pending list of eligible beneficiaries.
The direction was passed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Viklang Chattra Trust seeking better care of old age home.
“Pursuant to the order of this court, a report has been filed by Director Social Welfare Department stating that they have already commenced the process of construction of a separate Home for the Old Aged Persons and also for boys and girls”, the DB observed, adding “the construction is going on at good pace. We record the statement made by the Director Social Welfare Department, who is present in the court along with Eshaini, SLO”.
“Another issue raised in the PIL is that there is a long list of people, who are waiting for benefits under various social welfare schemes”, the DB said, adding “in order to assess the grievances of people and to ensure that these welfare schemes reach them in full measure without any delay, Director Social Welfare Department is directed to assist the court in addressing the needs of the eligible persons”.
Accordingly, DB directed Director Social Welfare Jammu to submit a list of schemes along with pending list of eligible beneficiaries to be collected through the District Social Welfare Officers. “Director Social Welfare Department, Kashmir shall also collect the details in the same manner and submit before this court on the next date of hearing so that appropriate orders can be passed for that province as well”, the DB added.
The DB also added Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department as party respondent and issued notice to him.
