DB seeks status of artificial lake

JAMMU, Nov 16: Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar has sought latest status of three important projects of Jammu city from the officers of the concerned departments.
These projects are artificial lake in River Tawi, cable car from Mubarak Mandi Complex to Bahu Fort and underground sewerage work.
The directions in this regard were issued in two different Public Interest Litigations (PILs) titled Inderjeet Khajuria versus State of J&K and Ashish Sharma and another versus State of J&K and others.
After hearing Senior Advocate B S Slathia with Advocate Meenakshi Slathia for the petitioner in PIL titled Inderjeet Khajuria versus State of J&K, the DB directed the counsel appearing on behalf of Irrigation and Flood Control Department to file a status report with regard to the project of construction of the artificial lake in the River Tawi.
“The status report shall indicate the exact nature of the project and to what extent it has been completed. The photographs and maps shall be submitted along with the status report”, the DB said. The counsel appearing on behalf of the Tourism Department was directed to file a status report with regard to the cable car project from Mubarak Mandi Complex to the Bahu Fort.
The Division Bench has also sought status of underground sewerage work in the city of Jammu. The direction in this regard was passed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) titled Ashish Sharma and another versus State of J&K and others.
After hearing Senior Additional Advocate General, S S Nanda and Deputy AG Ehsan Mirza, the DB directed that a fresh status report be submitted by the respondents with regard to the underground sewerage work in the city of Jammu. “The status report shall indicate the extent of the work completed as also the dates on which the entire work would be completed, if not already completed”, the DB directed.
“The status report shall clearly indicate as to whether the entire city has been connected to the underground sewerage network or not, and to what extent and which portions of the city have been left out, if any”, the DB said while granting two weeks time for submission of status report.
