DB seeks status of posts of Oncologists referred to PSC

JAMMU, Oct 7: In a contempt petition filed by A V Gupta in Public Interest Litigation seeking direction to the State to provide basic health facilities for treatment of cancer in the State, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice M K Hanjura today issued notice to Public Service Commission on filling posts of Oncologists in the Government Medical College Jammu.
After hearing Advocates Aditya Gupta and Ajay Sharma appearing for the State, the DB observed, “as per earlier order Dr Pawan Kotwal, Principal Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department, is present in person, who has also filed affidavit in pursuance of directions issued vide order dated 07.09.2017”.
“Dr Kotwal has apprised that the State Government has already approached the Government of India for release of funds. He states that posts referred to the Public Services Commission on 16.03.2011 have yet not been filled”, the DB further observed.
“In order to ascertain the present position to this extent only, it is appropriate to array Secretary, Public Service Commission as party respondent. Accordingly, Secretary, Public Service Commission is issued notice”, the DB said and directed counsel for the PSC to file report in reference to letter dated 16.03.2011 addressed to Secretary, Public Service Commission by State Government with regard to the filling up of the posts of Oncologists in Govt. Medical College Jammu in terms of directions issued by this court vide judgment dated 17.02.2016.
