DB summons IGP Traffic, SSP Jammu

JAMMU, June 5: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding regulation of traffic in Jammu city, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice J P Singh and Justice Hasnain Masoodi today summoned Inspector General of Police (Traffic) and SSP Jammu on next date of hearing.
After hearing Court Counsel Senior Advocate D C Raina assisted by Advocate Anil Verma whereas Advocate A S Khera appearing for the contempt petition and AAGs AH Qazi and Jagdish Parihar for the State besides Advocate S S Nanda for the JMC, the DB asked both the sides to suggest the remedial measures to minimize traffic congestion in the City of Temples.
“Keeping in view the larger public interest and for effective directions, IGP Traffic and SSP Jammu are required to be present on next date of hearing”, the DB said.
Earlier, the Court Counsel expressed his concern over the growing congestion of traffic in Jammu city and informed the Court that certain directions including shifting of bus stand have not been complied with by the concerned authorities.
In another PIL filed by Dr Davinder Singh Jasrotia and others against the growing accidents on the National Highway, DB directed the State counsel to furnish details on the next date of hearing as to from how many Government vehicles black films have been removed. The DB sought this report by or before June 7, 2012.
Advocates Rohit Kapoor and Nadia Qadir appeared for the PIL and AAGs Jagdish Parihar and Gagan Basotra for the State.
