DBA Kathua holds interaction with Chief Justice, Justice Chatterji

KATHUA, Oct 28: The members of District Bar Association (DBA) Kathua led by its president advocate, Ajat Shatru Sharma, held an interaction meet with the Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Administrative Judge District Kathua during their yesterday’s visit at District Court Complex Kathua. The Bar also submitted a memorandum of demands for the welfare of Advocates of J&K UT in general and district Kathua in particular.
The president of the Bar, Ajat Shatru Sharma apprised the Chief Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey of their various demands and suggestion which are required for welfare of advocates of District Kathua which included early resumption of construction work of new building of court complex of District & Sessions Court Kathua, the construction work of which was already stopped after 2019 due to the change of laws in J&K.
He further said that a deadline must be passed for the completion of the pending work of new court building and the concerned contractor must be ensured to give priority to Lawyers Chamber Complex whose foundation work has not yet been laid.
The president also demanded acquiring of the adjoining Government building of Veterinary Hospital Complex Kathua through Law Department, for housing all the judicial work in one premises by establishment of District Consumer Commission, Sub Registrar Office, Juvenile Justice Board, Labour Court etc. From past few years especially after 2019 the courts/offices of the authorities related to judicial work like Sub Registrar Office, District Consumer Commission, Juvenile Justice Board etc. were established temporarily in different Government buildings far away from the District Court Complex whereas lawyers primarily established their chambers/allotted space inside the District Court Complex.
The other demands in the memorandum included working hours of district and other Subordinate Courts during Summers must be observed from 08:00 AM to 02:00 PM instead of recent changed schedule during COVID-19 pandemic from 10:00 AM to 04:00 PM with observance of holiday on every second Saturday and provision of Winter vacations for all the district and other Subordinate Courts of Jammu Province, creation of separate fund for the welfare of advocates in the annual financial budget of UT/Central Government. on the pattern of Government of Delhi.
Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul administrative judge for District Kathua also assured the members of the Bar that their genuine grievances will be addressed as early as possible.
Others who present in the interaction meet includes Devinder Singh, vice president, Kamaljeet Singh, Rahul Kahjuria general secretaries, Amit Sharma joint secretary, Shrikant Sagar Raina, Rahul Sharma, Balbir Singh, Angrez Singh, T. N. Gupta, S. K. Sangra, etc. many other senior and young advocates of the Bar.
