DB’s directive to Rlys on announcements in Dogri, Kashmiri

JAMMU, July 13: Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Mansoor Ahmed and Justice Tashi Rabstan has directed the Railway authorities to make announcements at Railway Stations even in Dogri and Kashmiri languages.
The direction was passed in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by a practicing lawyer, BR Manhas, who submitted that discrimination was being meted out to Dogri and Kashmiri languages during announcements at Railway Stations.
“In the States of Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Assam and Orissa, the announcement is not being made in the local languages of J&K”, he further submitted while seeking directions to Union of India, Railways Ministry and Railway Board to use Dogri and Kashmiri languages.
After hearing Advocate BR Manhas in person whereas CGSC PS Chandel for the Union of India, Division Bench issued notice and disposed of PIL with a direction to respondents to comply with the provisions of law strictly and do the needful.
