DC Bandipora disburses Rs 1.64 cr among labourers under different schemes

BANDIPORA, Feb 16: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary today disbursed an amount of Rs 1.64 crore among 2062 labourers of the district under different welfare schemes at town hall Bandipora.
An amount of Rs 1.53 crore were disbursed among 2047 labourers as education assistance for their children while an amount of Rs 8.20 lakh was also disbursed among the next of kins of four labourers as death compensation. The Deputy Commissioner also provided an amount of Rs 1.16 lakh among five labourers with disabilities while an amount of Rs 1.42 lakh were also provided to six labours with chronic disease.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of labourers in the society and said that the labourers are the unsung heroes of the community.
He said the labour class is the backbone for the development of a nation and government has formulated various welfare schemes for the upliftment of building and other construction workers.
He appealed the workers to register themselves and avail benefits of various schemes and instructed the officer and officials of the labour department to create mass awareness among the people regarding various schemes, adding a good number of programmes are being implemented by the department to benefit the workers.
Dr Choudhary directed the concerned officials to ensure that all the labourers are registered so that they are benefitted from various welfare schemes.
Earlier officials informed the construction workers about different labour laws and various schemes including Muhafiz scheme, bank insurance policies, provisions for education assistance and micro-credit schemes implemented by the Government. Senior officials of the district were also present on the occasion.
